Derek Jarman's The Last of England Live Score National Tour
Tilda Swinton stars in cult queer film director Derek Jarman’s personal commentary on the decline of his country in a language closer to poetry than prose. The Last of England is an angrily poetic, personal portrayal of a country that he saw was in ruins. Through the experimental form, through the post-apocalyptic depiction of the country, Derek’s film dismantles the establishment and highlights the horrors of Thatchers Britain through a dream-like state. This film is reawakened in response to Brexit Britain in 2019.
Experience this unique screening with a live score from artists Joe Summers, Rosa Irwin-Clark and Thomas Summers who will be using everything at their disposal to create an oscillating audio-visual experience that will draw new meaning from the film.
This project is supported by the BFI Film Audience Network as part of Changing Times: Shifting Ground.
